Getting out of LA is crucial for clearing your head and a change of pace. I stumbled across the Skyview Motel in Los Alamos online and realized that we must have driven passed it a dozen times without realizing it was there- its hidden in plain sight you might say. You wouldn’t know to stop in Los Alamos unless by recommendation or accident. The motel itself has been standing since 1959 and was recently renovated into a comfortable boutique motel. They have a variety of rooms with specific amenities to choose from. The clear choice for me was the room with the outdoor shower overlooking the Santa Ynez wine country with a private patio, cowboy outdoor shower, and fire pit. The beds are comfortable and you will find everything you need in the room to get cozy and relax. The pool is perfect for lounging and just the right temperature. The hotel restaurant the Norman serves farm to table food that is sophisticated yet approachable. The Chef was very accommodating to my diet restrictions (allergies) and special requests for the bebe. A small complimentary breakfast is served daily consisting of coffee, homemade baked goods, and fruit. The property is beautifully landscaped with fire pits and lounging chairs placed throughout. You can hop on a bike and cruise into town at your leisure.
The town of Los Alamos was understated and quaint. We enjoyed some of the best meals we’ve had while on the road. Bobs well bread has remained a favorite that we look for any excuse to make our way there.
There are wineries surrounding the area as well as farms that you can visit. Pismo beach is only a 30-minute drive and San Luis Obispo just a few minutes further has shopping, bars, and restaurants.
